Celestia — Fading Suns

[2005-01-09 dim.]

  code space opengl

Celestia is a great open source space simulation, and a very good program to learn about astronomy and realtime 3D renderings.

I did a short stay as a trainee in an astrophysics lab called the GAM (Groupe Astroparticule de Montpellier). They asked me for the rack of pizzas they were computing dark matter simulations on to be supervised through SNMP and the MIBs and I must admit I did a poor job with Perl for that1It's probably not with the help of these scripts that they did get the mass of the universe. However, seeing how far Munin monitoring went with Perl makes it stands as a good candidate for that job1.

I also remember the guys in the lab who were literraly sweating Fortran by that time.

While in some of my spare time and when I wasn't writing and playing roleplaying games, did I learn how Celestia works and then made this mod.

It was first published on w3.fadingsuns.tk (down for long now) and recorded in the Selden's List of Resources for Celestia.

While it's packaged for Windows only (sorry), It could run by simply uncompressing the archive in the directory of an other OS's installation.
